Orthotics are inserts placed in the shoe to correct various structural abnormalities of the foot and ankle that are not able to be corrected with manual therapy or exercise. When the foot does not make proper contact with the floor, stresses are placed on the joints above to compensate for either excessive or inadequate motion below. This can lead to injuries and pain in other parts of the body.

Much like a luxury car feels when we drive it, if it has a flat tire or the wheels are out of alignment, we feel a rough ride with shaking in the steering wheel and a pulling of the car to one side. When we can maximize the functioning of the foot, we improve the efficiency that we are able to move through space.

Orthotics can be off the shelf pre-fabricated devices or custom fabricated for the individual. At MOVEMENT CoLab Rehabilitation, you will be screened with functional movements and specific joint assessments to determine which device is the best fit for you.
